Out of sheer boredom, Orison had pushed all her furniture into the bay window of her meeting room. After Kiltar had left the day before, she had been testing the Faunetta’s Atlas—discovering that it had more abilities than just showing her places she desired to visit. It could also play music from those lands. She set the atlas to play the drumbeats from her travels to Parndore with the Fire Singers. It didn’t take long for her to get engrossed in the music and recreate the fire dance. Closing her eyes, Orison skipped around her chambers and spun into a pirouette. Her chambers dissipated and she was blissfully back in Parndore with the Fire Singers.

She had created her own world. The suffocating circumstances of her chambers quickly dissipated. This large plateau was her place of solace. Orison was a Fire Singer—spinning tendrils of flames around her feet and hands as she swayed to the music. A smile spread across her face. Her brief reprieve was torn away when the music stopped abruptly, like a smothered candle. Blinking a few times to become accustomed to her chambers again, Orison was confronted by Taviar and Riddle. Both men had stern expressions and their arms were crossed.

“We need to talk to you,” Riddle said calmly with a hint of strictness; the Faunetta’s Atlas in his hand. “We know what you’ve been doing.”

Orison pouted, running her foot over the cold stone of her chambers. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Taviar approached her, staring into her eyes. She backed away when she felt him brush against the shield in her mind. “Please don’t lie, we are all Mindelates.” She looked at the floor. “We know you’ve been making Yil and Zade instigate the king’s recent ailments.”

“You’re an adult. You should know better, Ori,” Riddle pointed out, putting his hand on his hip. She knew he meant business because his sleeves were rolled up.

She looked at him. “I’m sorry, I’m just so irate.”

“We understand you’re mad, we do. Nobody wants this.” Riddle gestured to her chambers. “But we don’t want our sons growing up thinking this is okay, or that it’s how we deal with situations. They’ll end up in the dungeons, Orison, if they’re caught. Please stop this, leave it for the adults to deal with, they’re just children.” He gave her a pleading look. She loathed how much she had broken their trust, with her hunger for vengeance. “Will you?”

“Okay, today was the last one.”

Riddle held his arms out and smiled. She allowed him to embrace her. “We love you, sweets. Just don’t want to see any of us get hurt.” Gripping his shirt tighter, Orison savoured his comforting embrace. He pulled away slightly to hand the atlas back to her. “At least you have this for an escape. That’s something, right?”

She beamed as she held the atlas to her chest. He pushed her hair behind her ear and kissed the top of her head. Orison looked down at the globe in her hand, while forming a plan that didn’t involve the twins.
